Directed
by Newton Gilchrist for Midnight Productions of Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Having
grown up in Bucks County, PA, I often would photograph concerts
in the Philadelphia area. I've always loved beautiful lighting and
the allure of the stage. In the spring of 2001, at the
Keswick Theatre, I experienced Midnight Productions' staging
of "Jesus Christ Superstar" for the first time.
It was exciting and memorable. The following year I was asked
if I would shoot production photos of the show for the company.
I was delighted to have the opportunity and accepted the offer.

Newton
Gilchrist's crisp direction and staging of the show is powerful.
And as you can see in these photographs the lighting design by Alan
Doak is spectacular. In the photos here, only the actual stage
lights were used.
Shooting
these pictures for the production of "Jesus Christ Superstar"
at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA, brought me back to my Pennsylvania
roots and to my love of stage photography. God has blessed me so
greatly throughout my life. Taking certain photos in this series
and this picture in particular of "Jesus after being beaten
by and mocked, wearing a crown of thorns," was an experience
that had much deeper meaning to me than just shooting pictures of
a show. I hope they will touch you and let
you reflect about your relationship with God and his Son, Jesus.
About
me, the photographer . .
"I shoot photographs for a living, but this means nothing in
the grand scheme of things. I've had my ups and downs.
We all do. But there is one constant through out, that is
the Word of God. The God of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob, is
alive, endures forever and is truth. That truth is the Word,
which is the Bible
and through the person of Jesus, the Messiah, through whom we are
able to have redemption and forgiveness from sin, and a relationship
with our Father. This relationship is what enables us to receive
inner peace, even in the midst of turmoil. If not for my relationship
with Jesus Christ of Nazareth, who is the living, risen, Son of
God, I would be nothing and have nothing." - Steve Landis
