Pulitzer prize winning, and best selling author James Michener, seldom granted interviews or photo shoots. Michener famous for such books as Hawaii, Tales of the South Pacific, Centennial to name a few, resided in Bucks County, PA, where this photograph was taken by the 19 year old photographer. Landis used a Mamiya RB67 camera with a Mamiya 180mm f4.5 lens and Kodak Tri-x black and white film. Mark Stettler, assisted on the shoot. Jack Nochton's VIP Color Lab (Bethleham, PA) developed the film and contact sheets. TIME initially published this photo. A year or so later on, the NEW YORK TIMES Book Review also ran a shot from the session.
