Andie
MacDowell, New York, Riva Magazine, 1988
By
the time we did these portraits during a cover shoot and profile,
for the British publication RIVA in the fall of 1988, Andie had
already established herself as a top actress. Her personality and
character were still the same as on the day I’d first met
her. Andie always stood out from the crowd, she was and is always
sweet, genuine.. and that comes across in her film roles.
As
a matter of fact she told me she was just about to begin filming
"Green Card"
with Gerard Depardieu. I couldn't believe it. I told
her, "You're going to have a great time working with
him." Vincent Canby, the legendary former film critic
for the New York Times, once wrote that "Depardieu is perhaps
the greatest non-English speaking actor in the world."
(He does speak English but not as his native tongue.) I told
her about my scene with Gerard,
in the movie, "Une femme ou deux", essentially playing
myself, a New York fashion advertising photographer. I was
very excited to see the finished film when it was released.
I think they had great chemistry in the film, and it was a very
good role for Andie.
