new york color head shot of Louise, actor
  Louise, actress
  New York studio, July 2007

The style of New York headshots has traditionally been to show a very natural somewhat close up of the face, hence the name headshot, as in this color headshot of English actress, Louise.  More and more actors and casting directors, especially in Los Angeles, are requesting to see a headshot in color.  Typically, Steve Landis will shoot a combination of black and white and color comprised of close ups for the New York headshot market and a more pulled back three quater style shot for the LA headshot market.

See this shot in black and white.

"We try to capture a range of emotion and present a headshot that is natural, not posey. Many actors use different headshots for different castings and purposes. We work with the actor to try and bring out that range. The image can be very subtle as is this example here," says Landis.

Louise had her New York style headshots photographed by Steve Landis in the New York studio.  LA or NY; most actors like to work in both markets, so it is a good idea to work with several separate headshot pictures, depending on the type of casting you are up for.

Steve Landis shoots in a lush classic style of artistic portrait photography. His high quality color and black and white photography and headshots are well known amongst a select group of  recording artists, models and actors.
